Apples


 

             
             
Ambrosia Late September apples, large and conical in shape,  
  cream background with a red overtone. A very sweet,
  great snacking apple.      
             
Arkansas Black This apple, originatingout of Benton County Arkansas
  dates back to the late 1800's.When allowed to ripen fully 
  in storagethe red color becomes so dark that it almost
  turns black. A mid October apple that's "hard enough 
  to knock a dog down" when picked but softens in storage
  has a distinct flavor all it's own.    
             
Baldwin An antique variety coming in about mid October.   
  The fruit is very large with a color similar to Red Del.This
  apple adds good full flavor to ciders and pies.  
             
Beni Shogun Another earlier ripening version of the Fuji. Beni Shogun
  comes in mid September and offers a very sweet, lightly 
  crisp yellow flesh.        
             
Brown Snout This 19th century cider apple has high tannins but low
  acid, and gives a little kick to your ciders.    
             
Cameo A chance seeding from the west that comes in late   
  September. The Cameo is the new and improved  
  Red Del. This apple has a great sweet, spicy flavor  
  and is very firm.        
             
Candy Crisp The Candy Crisp comes in early to mid October and   
  offers a Golden like flavor. The apple is large and yellow
  with firm, juicy flesh.      
             
Corail Also known as Pinata, this late September early October
  apple offers a slightly, sweet crisp flesh. The apple   
  is a large fruit with a red coloring over a yellow background.
             
Crimson Crisp Harvested in mid September, the Crimson Crisp has a 
  smart, snappy flavor that keeps very well in cold storage.
             
Criterion This odd shaped apple comes in October. It has a green 
  to yellow color and is pointed in shape. The flesh is 
  light and has a pear flavoring.      
             
Dabinett Another old english apple produced for its bitter, sweet
  juice. Harvested in October.      
             
Dandee Red This summer apple comes very early around June. It gets
  fully red and has a pleasingly crisp tart taste.  
             
Detroit Red This is a summertime favorite. Coming in late July or early
  August, the Detroit Red is best for sauces or baking. 
             
Empire A northern variety coming in down here around the end 
  of September. This apple develops a dark red coloring and
  also develops a deep flavor that gets better withage. It is a 
  Macintosh type flavor.      
             
Foxwelp This english cider apple produces a bitter, sharp juice 
  adding that extra bite to hard ciders.    
             
Fuji One of the sweetest apples grown. This mid October apple
  is a favorite among many because of it's sweet flavor and 
  renowned crunch.        
             
Gala A mid August favorite. The Gala is the new Red Delicious, 
  a very sweet mid sized apple, great right out of the  
  refrigerator.        
             
Ginger Gold One of the first dual use apples to be harvested. This apple 
  comes in mid July. It is a large yellow, green apple good for
   cooking and eating too.      
             
Golden Delicious The partner to th Red Del, the Golden, is also a mid to late
  September apple. Unlike the Red, the Golden is as good
  an eater as it is a cooker.      
             
Golden Supreme An offspring of the Golden Del but coming slightly ahead 
  of it. This cousin of the Golden Del is a larger apple that if left 
  to ripen fully becomes extremely sweet.    
             
Gold Rush Best known for its remarkable keeping qualities (10-11 months)
  and sweet, crisp flavor.      
             
Granny Smith Known for making some of the best apple pies, the  
  Granny Smith has a beautiful dark green color with small
  white flecks. The Grannie's tartness goes well with a 
  slice of dry cheese. Look for the Granny in early October.
             
Hampshire Another of our antique varieties comes in early October. A
  full, deep red coloring with a pleasant tang. Great for cooking.
             
Harrys  Masters Jersey This old Somerset apple produces a full bittersweet cider and 
  is harvested in October.      
             
Honeycrisp A new variety out of Minnesota that is picked about mid to
  late August. The Honeycrisp is a large, yellow to red apple with 
  a great sweetness and a hint of tart.    
             
Jonagold An all around favorite. The Jonagold is the best of both worlds.
  It has the sweetness of a Golden Del and the tartness of a Jonathon.
  If it can be done to an apple, it can be done to a Jonagold.
  The Jonagold is harvested in September.    
             
Jonathon The Jonathon is a late September, early October apple. It looks 
  similar to a Red Del in coloring but is smaller in size. The Jonathon 
  is prized for it's tangy flavor. Great for cooking or adding some 
  snap to your cider.        
             
June Apple A little apple with a big impact. The June Apple comes early June, 
  and is known for making the famous June Apple Jelly. 
             
Kingston Black An old english cider apple that produces a bittersharp juice. This
  apple comes in October.      
             
Braeburn This is a fully red version of the older Braeburnbut still keeps
  the same great snappy flavor and terrific crunch. Look for the
  Kumeu in October.        
             
Limber Twig This heirloom apple originated somewhere in the South East.
  There are many named varieties of the limbertwig. It is 
  characterized by it's somewhat rough and greenish-yellow 
  skin. It keeps well and has a mildly pleasant taste. Look for 
  Limbertwig in mid October.      
             
Lodi Another old time apple coming very early in the season around
  June. This green apple is very sour, but makes wonderful 
  sauce and pies.        
             
MacIntosh A favorite among Northerners, this old time apple has been 
  around for generations because it is very multi-purpose. It is
  a darker red apple, squat in shape with an excellent sweet, but 
  tart flavor.        
             
Mutzu This very large apple is a Golden Del cross. The Mutzu takes 
  the Golden to the next level. It is a very sweet apple that keeps
  well in storage. The Mutzu is harvestedin late Sept.  
             
Paula Red A summer apple that is green with a slight band of dark red
  color. The Paula Red comes in in about July. This apple has
  a sharp flavor and is good for pies and sauces.  
             
Pink Lady Outstanding newer variety. Comes late in October. This is a 
  very firm sweet, tart apple good to eat and great to cook.
             
Red Delicious The old standard, a mid to late September apple, found all 
  over the world. The Red Delicious is a proven favorite.
             
Rome Beauty This apple has been around for over 100 years. The Rome has
  many different strains and is a late September apple that is 
  used in many recipes. It is a large, fully dark red apple. This is le.
             
September Wonder This is a  sport of the original Fuji but ripens 3-4 weeks earlier.
  The apple is large with a sweet, lightly crisp yellow flesh.
             
Shizuka This is the sister to the Mutzu, but ripens about two weeks 
  before. It has the same great flavor and colors a little more 
  yellow.          
             
Smokehouse This antique variety gets its name from the founder who saw
  this tree growing next to his smokehouse. A late September
  early October variety. Very large with a McIntosh type
  tartness.          
             
Splendor This old apple variety comes out of New Zealand, and ripens 
  in Mid October. The apple itself is large with a red color over a
  yellow background and has a tendancy to rust. The flesh is 
  crisp and very sweet.      
             
Staymen This old time favorite is knoen very well in the East. The Staymen
  comes in around Mid October. It has a smart, tangy taste that 
  cooks up nice and smooth, but eats well also.  
             
Suncrisp Another apple out of the Golden Del strain. The Suncrisp gets
  ripe in Early October. It is a yellow apple with some red blush.
  It has a sweet, subacid flavor that gets better in storage.
             
Topaze One of the newest apples to be grown here at the orchard.
  The Topaze hints at the old time Winesap apple with it's
  sharp flavor with a hint of sweetness. This apple really has 
  a crunchy texture. The Topaze comes in October.  
             
Trembletts Geneva One more in our line of sharp bitter sweet cider apples
               Bitter out of England.        
             
Yate This late October, early November apple is a favorite in the 
  mountains. The apple is small ( no more than 4-5 bites ) but has
  outstanding flavor that stands on it's own.  
             
York Mid October. Great cooking apple.    
             
Zestar One of a few summer apples grown here. The Zestar hits 
  about late July. It is a large green apple with a blush of red.
  The flesh is lightly crisp with a little zing.

Apples

Our shipping of fresh fruit starts in September and comes to an end by January. We hand  pick the fruit at its peak and individually cushion each apple. We send it on its way to your front door by the way of UPS. Because of this, we cannot ship to post office boxes. When your apples arrive, please store in the refrigerator for added crispness and flavor. Our 1 tray of apples contain 20 pieces of fruit, 2 tray would have 40 pieces and a 4 tray would have 80 pieces. Our petite tray contains 9 pieces of fruit.
